The Caltech men's and women's basketball teams will face Pomona-Pitzer this Saturday in their Southern California Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (SCIAC) openers at Braun Gym. The women's team tips off at 5 p.m., followed by the men's team at 7 p.m.
In between the two games, fans can enjoy an outdoor barbecue with pulled-chicken sandwiches, coleslaw, chips, and drinks, provided by Caltech Dining Services.
For the men (4-7), this is their first crack at breaking Caltech's 297-game conference losing streak. They're coming off a victory against Wisconsin-Lutheran, which gave them the fourth win of the season, already tying their best record since the 1995-1996 season. In December, the Beavers went on a three-game win streak, including a thrilling victory against UC Santa Cruz, who defeated Pomona-Pitzer (4-9) in November.
After tallying the highest win total in program history last year with six victories, the women's team (0-11) is still seeking its first win of the season. Last year, they swept Pomona-Pitzer (2-9) to earn their only conference wins.
