Caltech leaders received a Supplier of the Year award from Boeing in a recent gala awards ceremony near the nation's capital. Caltech was the only education and research institution to receive the award. In a statement, Boeing officials said the awards are given to recognize "exceptional performance and contributions to Boeing's overall success during 2014."
"We are proud to have received Boeing's Supplier of the Year award," says Mory Gharib, Caltech's Hans W. Liepmann Professor of Aeronautics and Bioinspired Engineering, director of the Ronald and Maxine Linde Institute of Economic and Management Sciences, and vice provost. "Dating back to the 1930s, through the founding of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and the growth of the aerospace industry in Southern California, Caltech's collaboration with Boeing has led to some key advancements in aerospace design and technology."
Kent Fisher, Boeing's leader for supplier management, noted that "Boeing is facing an increasingly competitive landscape. To continue to lead the market we need supplier partners like Caltech who understand the importance of creating a sustainable competitive advantage with products and support."
The selection of the winning suppliers is based a number of factors, including their ability to anticipate and respond to changing customer requirements.
Caltech was honored in the category of university.
