Caltech Dining Services Wins Grand Prize in National Dining Competition

PASADENA, Calif.—California Institute of Technology's Dining Services has won the Loyal E. Horton Dining Awards gold medal and grand prize at the annual National Association of College and University Food Services (NACUFS) convention in Las Vegas. Employing rigorous standards, the NACUFS Loyal E. Horton Dining Awards recognizes excellence in university food services across six categories.

The Caltech Dining Services catering team achieved a perfect "10" in all categories for which they qualified. This is the third Loyal E. Horton grand prize Caltech has won in four years. Caltech has consistently placed among the top award winners in this national dining competition, winning 26 awards over the past six years.

"We are extremely proud to win this prestigious award again this year," stated Andre Mallie, director of dining services. "Caltech is a very small university. This is a national competition. We compete against the largest universities in the nation, including Notre Dame, Harvard, and Georgia Tech. These universities have large operations to service their student populations. We have a 10-person team. The NACUFS grand prize award is highly coveted by colleges and universities across the United States and in Canada."

The Caltech Dining Services team already has its sights on future competitions, and is continually looking for ways to creatively enhance its services and offerings. Caltech Dining Services oversees both the Caltech and the JPL dining facilities.
