Caltech Starts Center for Women Entrepreneurs

PASADENA—The California Institute of Technology Women's Center has created the Center for Women Entrepreneurs for female entrepreneurs and those interested in becoming entrepreneurs (including female Caltech students interested in starting companies). The center's next meeting will be at 7 p.m. on June 3 at the Women's Center, 355 S. Holliston in Pasadena. The topic will be patent-law issues. The meeting is open to the public, but reservations are required.

The Entrepreneur's Center will be managed by the director of the Women's Center, Kathleen Bartle-Schulweis. She will be assisted by Joan Horvath, a staff member in the Commercialization Office of Caltech's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, who will coordinate relationships with the non-Caltech entrepreneurial community and groups interested in increasing the number of women entrepreneurs. The center will have periodic networking meetings.

A one-day retreat is also planned for Saturday, July 17, in concert with the Caltech Summer Undergraduate Fellowship Program at Pasadena's new Eaton Canyon Nature Center. The retreat will explore, in depth, issues in entrepreneurship for women and will provide advice on early-stage businesses.

The Caltech Women's Center was founded in 1993 to work for the advancement of women in science and engineering. The center works to support the central mission of the California Institute of Technology, which is to promote the education and development of all scientists and engineers. The Caltech Women's Center operates as a central meeting place, information resource, program center, and support for the entire Caltech community.

For reservations and information, please contact the Women's Center at (626) 395-3221.
