Caltech Y Sponsors Community Service Day

PASADENA, Calif.— California Institute of Technology students will participate in several community service projects April 7, as part of "Make a Difference Day," sponsored by the Caltech Y.

The volunteer projects will include working with Habitat for Humanity to build or restore a home, including painting, paneling, or tiling; working with abused children at the Hillside Home for Children; visiting seniors at the Amberwood Convalescent Hospital; working with the homeless at Union Station; horseback riding with children with disabilities in the MACH 1 (Move a Child Higher) Project; trail maintenance at the Angeles National Forest; beach cleanup at Venice Beach; and working with the Hunger Cleanup on a variety of service activities.

"Make a Difference Day" provides Caltech students with real-world opportunities to become involved in volunteerism and worthwhile community service activities in spite of rigorous academic schedules and minimal free time.

The Caltech Y is a nonprofit, student-guided organization. Its primary goal is to offer students the opportunity to learn about the needs of society through community service. It operates student leadership programs and community service and volunteer programs, among other worthy activities.
