Community Read: A Conversation with Professor Danielle Allen about Our Declaration

The Caltech community is invited to take part a special virtual event with 2023 Commencement speaker Danielle Allen, James Bryant Conant University Professor and director of the Edmond & Lily Safra Center for Ethics at Harvard University, to discuss her award-winning book, Our Declaration: A Reading of the Declaration of Independence in Defense of Equality.

In Our Declaration, Professor Allen combines classical thought, personal experience, and a rigorous analysis of the Declaration of Independence to argue that this founding document is fundamentally about the equality of all people. Professor Allen has authored 14 books in total.

The event will be moderated by President Thomas F. Rosenbaum, Sonja and William Davidow Presidential Chair and Professor of Physics.

The first 250 members of the Caltech community who register with a valid Caltech UID will receive a voucher for a complimentary copy of Our Declaration. Books will be available for pickup on campus the week of May 15. Distribution details will be sent by email.
