Marc Stern Named Caltech Trustee

PASADENA, Calif.- Marc I. Stern, president and director of the asset management firm The TCW Group, Inc., has been named a trustee of the California Institute of Technology.

Stern is also a director of Société Générale Asset Management in Paris, a global asset management firm and the parent company of TCW, and a member of the board of directors of TCW Galileo Funds. He is also a director of Qualcomm Inc.

A resident of Malibu, Stern is an active member of the community. He is chair and chief executive officer of the Los Angeles Opera and director of the Performing Arts Center of Los Angeles County. He is also a trustee of Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.

A native of Vineland, New Jersey, Stern received a bachelor's degree from Dickinson College and a master's degree from the Columbia University Graduate School of Public Law and Government. In 1969, he graduated magna cum laude from the Columbia University School of Law, where he was also an editor of Law Review.

Prior to joining TCW, Stern was president and director of SunAmerica, Inc., now a subsidiary of American International Group, Inc. He is a former managing director and chief administrative officer of the Henley Group, Inc., a position he held from the time that company was formed by Allied-Signal in early 1986. He held senior vice president posts at Allied-Signal, and at Signal and Wheelabrator-Frye Inc. prior to their merger with Allied Corporation. ###
