PASADENA—The Starr Foundation has awarded the California Institute of Technology $200,000 for international graduate student support.
Over the next four years, by providing financial assistance to those in need, the grant will allow international graduate students the chance to take full advantage of the educational opportunities at Caltech. Many international students require special support during their first and second years at Caltech, in areas ranging from improving language skills to addressing work restrictions for spouses. To determine the best use of the funds, the dean of graduate studies will evaluate the most pressing needs of the international graduate students as a group, as well as on a case-by-case basis. Caltech admits approximately 100 international graduate students each year.
The Starr Foundation is a private nonprofit organization whose activities have focused on education, particularly scholarship in the United States and Asia, health issues, and local assistance for international studies, community funds, and other civic and cultural organizations. The foundation's current interests are educational institutions and student aid.
