Stock Receives KINGDOM Educational Software Grant

Caltech Seismological Laboratory professor Joann Stock has been awarded a three-year KINGDOM Software educational user license from IHS Global, Inc., formerly Seismic Micro-Technology Inc. Stock and her group previously have used the software for the interpretation and visualization of active source seismic data sets collected from several locations including Antarctica, Mexico, the Indian Ocean, the Pacific Ocean, and Southern California, and they will continue to use the software for such studies. In addition, she and her colleagues are in the process of developing a student training class in marine geophysics that onboard a research ship in the Eastern Pacific Ocean in Spring 2016. The Kingdom Suite software will be used by Caltech students as part of their analysis and interpretation of multichannel seismic reflection data collected during the cruise.

The KINGDOM Software allows integrated geoscientific workflow spanning modeling, analytics, and data management for 3-D imaging of the faults and layers of sediment below Earth's surface. It provides a Windows-based geoscientific interpretation and allows Earth scientists to focus on analysis and interpretation of subsurface faults and layers.
